Eat Happens privacy policy
Eat Happens is not released yet. This policy describes the app as it is being built and will be reviewed before launch.
Who we are
4ty is a small independent studio. We make Eat Happens and are responsible for the personal data it handles (the “controller”). Write to eathappens@4ty.dev about anything in this policy. Last updated 2026-11-03.
What we collect
- An anonymous account created on first launch, with no name or email, and the support code that identifies it (shown in Settings)
- What you bought (Eat Happens Pro), as Apple or Google report it, to unlock it
- Kept only on your phone, never sent to us: your profile (your household, kitchen equipment, cooking times, allergies, diet, likes and dislikes), your meal plans, your pantry, your shopping lists and your own recipes
- With household sync (Pro): your household's meal plan, shopping lists and own recipes, kept on our servers so everyone in the household sees them on their phones. Your profile, including allergies, stays on your phone
- Recipes you import with AI (Pro): the link or photo you send is passed to Google's Gemini to write the recipe out; we keep the recipe you save, not the photo
- Server logs: your IP address, device type and app version whenever the app talks to our servers, kept for 30 days to keep the service secure and working
- Usage statistics and crash reports, through Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics: which screens and features are used, the device model and system version, an approximate location derived from the IP address, and a random identifier of the app installation. They are not linked to your account and never used for ads. In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland they are collected only if you agree; anyone can turn them off in the app's Settings
Why we use it
- To run Eat Happens (to provide the app you asked for): your account, your results, the app’s features and what you bought.
- To fix and improve the app: usage statistics and crash reports. In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland only with your consent; elsewhere because we have a legitimate interest in a working app, and you can turn them off in Settings at any time.
- To keep the service safe (our legitimate interest): server logs, limits against abuse and reviewing texts people report.
- We never sell your data, never use it for advertising and never track you across other companies’ apps or websites. Anything the app says about you is entertainment: no decision with legal or similar effects is made about you.
Who receives it
- Google (Google Cloud and Firebase), in the EU (Belgium and the Netherlands) for our servers and stored data; the United States for usage statistics and crash reports: hosts the app's servers, accounts and stored data, and processes usage statistics and crash reports (Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics), and reads the links and photos of recipes you import with AI (Gemini on Vertex AI).
- Apple and Google Play, in the countries where they operate: process your payments and tell us what you bought; we never see your card.
They use the data only to do their part, under their own terms and privacy policies. Nobody else gets it, unless the law makes us hand it over.
Data outside your country
The places above may be outside your country, including the United States, whose laws may protect data less than the EU’s. Where EU law requires it, we rely on the safeguards these companies offer, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Your account and everything stored with it: until you delete it.
- Server logs: 30 days.
- Usage statistics: up to 14 months. Crash reports: up to 90 days.
- What the AI services receive: as their terms allow, typically up to 30 days for abuse monitoring.
Deleting your data
Settings → Delete my data deletes your account and everything stored with it at once. You can also write to eathappens@4ty.dev with the support code from the app’s Settings, and we delete it within 30 days. Uninstalling the app doesn’t delete the account by itself. Purchases stay with your Apple or Google account, so you can restore them after a fresh start.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to how we use it, take it elsewhere, and withdraw your consent at any time (Settings in the app). Accounts are anonymous, so include the support code from Settings when you write to eathappens@4ty.dev; we answer within 30 days. You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Children
Eat Happens is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has used it, write to us and we will delete their account.
Security
Data travels encrypted (HTTPS) and is stored with Google Cloud, which encrypts it at rest. Only the studio can reach it, and only to run and support the app.
California and other US states
We don’t sell or share personal information and don’t use it for targeted advertising. The rights above are yours wherever you live.
On our websites
This applies to our websites (4ty.dev, nth.4ty.dev and myearth.4ty.dev), not to the app. They count visits with Google Analytics, which sets a cookie, only if you allow it: visitors in Europe, including the EU, the UK and Switzerland, are asked first, and everyone else can say no. It tells us which pages people read and roughly where from (country and city, from a shortened IP address); Google processes it for us. No ads, no advertising features and no tracking across other sites. Change your choice any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of each page.
Changes to this policy
When what we collect changes, we update this page and its date. Before an important change applies, the app tells you.
